Consider keeping a journal to write out all your thoughts and concerns with out censoring yourself, record questions and thoughts, and express feelings about your treatment.
Bring a friend or family member with you to your first few appointments to help take notes, clarify information, or simply be there as a source of support.
Make a list of things you need assistance with so when someone asks how he or she can help, you can let him or her know. Feel free to ask for help with shopping, cooking, laundry, childcare, transportation or even meals.
You may find a strong support system outside the family and close friends you would normally tell about your diagnosis. If you choose to talk about it with co-workers or other associates, share according to what feels comfortable to you.
Support groups can provide valuable support and information as well as something you do just for you.
