PATIENT PREPARATION FOR PET/CT EXAM

• No food, snacks or liquids, other than plain water, for 4 hours prior to your PET/CT exam.  If exam involves a scan of the gastrointestinal tract, patient must fast from midnight on the evening prior to the exam or 8 hours prior on the day of the exam (other than plain water).
• No candy, gum, mints, cough drops or anything that may contain sugar for 4 hours prior to exam.
• No coffee, tea, soda, chocolate or anything containing caffeine within 24 hours prior to exam.
• No physical exercise or strenuous activity (including brisk walks or heavy lifting) within 48 hours prior to your exam.
• Drink 2-3 glasses of plain water within 1-3 hours prior to exam, and following your exam.
• Arrive at our imaging center 10-15 minutes prior to your exam to allow for processing of any paperwork.  Allow 2-3 hours for your exam.
• Let us know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you are diabetic, notify us 24 hours prior to your exam for personalized instructions.
